icon-award-badge
The Mattschoss vineyard is their highest Shiraz vineyard in Eden Valley at an elevation of 489m. The Shiraz block sits in a little amphitheatre which surrounds a rocky outcropping covered in distinctive native vegetation called yuccas. The soil type here consists of very little topsoil, incorporating meta-sandstone, marble and ironstone. The Mattschoss family have spent years focusing on quality in the vineyard and it is now realising it’s true potential. They are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the fruits of this passion and labour. James Halliday - Published on 01 Sep 2016 96 points Avant garde winemaking in 3-tonne fermenters using partial whole bunch carbonic maceration in various ways. It is as expressive as it is elegant, with a pinot-ish display of red fruits and spices on its long and silky palate, freshness and balance its watch words. New French oak less than 20% sits perfectly with its modest alcohol. 7 Trophies and 14 Gold Medals St Hallett Mattschoss Single Vineyard Eden Valley Shiraz 2015 Trophy for The Drinks Association Perennial Trophy for Best Shiraz Trophy for The Len Evans Memorial Perpetual Trophy for Best Single Vineyard Wine Trophy for The Dr Gilbert Phillips Memorial Perpetual Trophy for Best Red Trophy for Best Red Wine
