Aloxe (pronounced Alosse), originally Alesia, contains a Celtic root signifying a “rocky cliff”. Corton, the name of the most famous “climat”, was added to the village in 1862. Corton is a composite meaning “Othon’s Court”. In medieval Latin, cortis designated a courtyard and was used in the same way as in the Gallo-Roman villa, indicating a property belonging to a member of the Frankisk nobility.

Nose:
Intense red ruby colour. In its youth, its aromas suggest spring garden flowers and little red berries (raspberry, strawberry, and cherry) as well as blackcurrant. While ageing, aromas develop into more generous flavours such as peony or jasmine, jam or fruit liqueur, truffle, and mushroom with cinnamon hints.
Palate:
Rather deep, the soils are well adapted to strong and generous Pinot Noirs. Solid but always elegant, racy but with delicate fruits, it opens fully after 3 to 5 years on a structured firm body but with rounded and velvety tannins.
