Located 40km south of Bordeaux, Sauternes is the most prestigious dessert wine appellation in Bordeaux, producing magical and precious nectars. These ‘haute-couture wines’, are made from botrytized Semillon grapes in a terroir with ideal soils and microclimate

In medieval times, Roumieu was the name used by the Moors to designate Christians and the place named Roumieu meant a thoroughfare for the pilgrims on their way to St Jacques d Compostelle. 

Today only a few farm buildings and a well dating back to the eighteenth century remain. The "chai" or wine storehouse was built in 1896 by the Bordeaux architect Fargeaudoux and its technical and aesthetic qualities are worthy of interest - indeed it is a rare example of a wine building in the midst of the Sauternes vineyards

Roumieu has been in the same family since the eighteenth century and constituted, on numerous occasions during both the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the dowry of the women of the family. Each generation has retained the same love of the soil, "terroir", respect for the traditional methods of wine growing and a belief in the moral duty to transmit this knowledge from generation to generation.
